Although there has been discussion about the reopening of schools in South Africa from the 1st of June 2020, there is little clarity regarding the basic education sector which includes day care and edu-care centres.
When schools closed towards the end of March this year, the entire education system was prepared to close their classroom doors to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus.
Then, a 21-day lockdown period was announced and most teachers, lecturers, caregivers and principles were still on board.
However, 21 days soon turned into more than two months and counting, causing major economic distress across the nation.
The fact that children of all ages have had to stay at home, relying on their parents to provide them with home-schooling has only contributed to their stress as they juggle financial uncertainty and the pressure of honouring their commitment to educate their children.
The knock-on effect of this is that educational facilitators from all levels and, especially in the private sector, have faced their own financial worries.
This has been no holiday for small, privately owned businesses, institutions and facilities. Facilities that provide education and child care services have suffered a heavy blow as many parents believe that it’s not necessary to carry on paying fees when they are home-schooling their children.
Consequently, many staff members have had little to no income during this period and other overheads remain in place as the cash flow diminishes.
For these reasons, it’s crucial that the people of South Africa do everything they can to help the person next to them, even in the smallest way.
During times like this, supporting local businesses is the most important thing we can do to keep the economy afloat.
There is little clarity regarding when we will be permitted to open our classroom doors once again. However, our team remains prepared for the strict regulations for when we get the go ahead and assure all parents that you and your child’s health and safety is and will always be our top priority.
In the interim, we will continue providing learning material for you to work through with your little one and we make ourselves available to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
Thank you for your continued support while we anticipate the reopening of schools in South Africa and we hope that you and your loved ones remain safe and healthy during this time.
