In part one of this two-part series, we introduced 5 reasons why early childhood development is important. This is such an important topic that we felt it would be best to share the many reasons over two separate articles.
In this article, we will share another 4 reasons why we believe that early childhood development is something that every parent, guardian, and schoolteacher should take seriously.
As a parent, guardian, or caretaker, your relationship with your child will be the first relationship they ever have, and this will set the tone for their future relationships.
Your child looks to you for answers on how to treat others, themselves, and how they allow others to treat them in return. A relationship built on love, trust, and open communication will teach your children that this is what healthy relationships look like, and that this is what they should strive for when building relationships with other people in their lives.
Your children watch you and learn from everything that you do and when you are deeply involved in their early stages of development, you have the opportunity to teach them valuable life lessons.
A healthy home environment most often means that children thrive in other areas of their lives, especially academically. Children who have supportive and involved parents are more likely to succeed in school.
When looking at early childhood development, early education is key. Children begin their learning process as soon as they are born. Those who are not adequately stimulated from early on, tend to have learning difficulties later on.
The very first language that infants speak is an emotional language. Before they learn to speak and understand verbal language, they use emotions as a form of communication. Babies and toddlers are extremely sensitive to emotions and easily pick up on your emotional state, especially when you are anxious or angry. The unfortunate truth is that they will often absorb and project these emotions back out to you and others.
When babies grow up around adults who try to regulate their emotions in a healthy way, in turn learn how to regulate their own emotions in their adult life. This is an important life skill and can improve social skills as well as their ability to pick up on non-verbal cues.
When parents are closely involved in their children’s lives, they have the opportunity to teach them healthy habits to carry forward into their adult lives. This includes taking the time to prepare wholesome meals, teaching them the importance of personal hygiene, and encouraging physical activity. These are all habits which can have long-lasting effects.
Additionally, a nurturing home environment is good for a child’s physical health. Children who grow up in unsafe environments are highly stressed, which negatively impacts their physical health.
We cannot emphasize enough that early childhood development is important for every child. Therefore, our programs are designed to support all the stages of development and we work closely with parents to ensure every child in our care receives all the attention they need to grow and develop into happy, healthy adults, in every way.
